A long-desired and much-anticipated redesign of my personal website is complete, and I’m very excited to share it with the world. I guess it’s appropriate that this update was completed on Earth Day, because veganism is very much about preserving the earth and being a good steward. It’s also about not harming others, human and nonhuman. It’s a lifestyle, not just a diet. And given the current problems with industrialized farming and environmental damage, it’s an imperative, not a choice.

I started this website in 2003. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. My life was changing a lot back then, and I had much to learn about myself and the world. My life is changing a lot now, too. I’m embarking on new projects, I’ve moved across the country, not surprising, I’m still learning things about myself and the world. It’s a great journey of hills and valleys that keeps getting better and better.

Why will this blog interest you? Well, most likely because you’re vegan. But maybe also because you enjoy social commentary and reflections on the absurd compartmentalization that can be observed throughout our society. California’s San Joaquin Valley (also called the Central Valley) is a strange place for a vegan. Fruits and vegetables galore and a long growing season, yes, but also a life in the midst of an agricultural community that includes massive pesticide use, sprawling dairies, “rustic” attitudes toward animals (companion and farmed), and far right conservative politics. I have a good life here, but it’s not always comfortable emotionally. That’s what you’ll read about this blog.

There’s more about veganica.org on the About page. I hope you’ll stop back for photos, stories, commentary, and news. Drop me a note and let me know what you think (veganica@veganica.org).
